About Robyn
Robyn TeVelde is an Illawarra-based artist whose work explores colour, form, and the quiet energy of everyday life.
Working primarily in paint and mixed media, she brings a bold yet thoughtful approach to the canvas — often drawing inspiration from the light, landscape, and atmosphere of the Illawarra region she calls home.
Her practice reflects a lifelong relationship with creativity, refined over years of making and observing. Whether working on large-scale pieces or more intimate works, Robyn’s art invites the viewer into a space of colour, texture, and presence.
Based in the Illawarra, she continues to create work that is both personal and open — grounded in place, yet free in expression.
ART was always in the wings, when at 15 years of age, Robyn turned down a scholarship with the Australian Ballet Company… and a commission by a major department store gift card department (David Jones) for her line of hand painted cards at that time, that featured quirky fashion figures with funky hair do’s. Robyn could not keep up the demand, as her hairdressing career had become all consuming.
Robyn te Velde’s multi-faceted artistic talent within the ARTS has posed a challenge throughout her career that now spans over many decades of spectacular achievement. As an internationally acclaimed hair and fashion diva Robyn was the proprietor of one of Australia’s leading award-winning salons in Wollongong back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, when her flagship salon was also Australia’s largest single salon, employing up to 26 hairdressers over many years.
